Offshore wreck fishing, like angling for
sea bass, cod and pollock, is fun.
Reeling up the fish from the depths
is work.
Daiwa’s Dendoh Power Assist Reels,
12-volt-battery-operated electric reels
that retrieve the line automatically, are
a solution.
Daiwa introduced the first Dendoh reels in 2006 and now makes more models for various types of fishing.
Here’s a rundown.
Marine Power MP 3000
Daiwa’s top-of-the-line electric reel, the MP 3000 is built to be a powerhouse for large fish, heavy rigs and heavy line.
Features include:
- Machine-cut aluminum frame, side plates and spool
- Powerful, machined, stainless-steel gear drive
- Capacity for 1,000 yards of 150-pound braided line; 1,500 yards of 150-pound braid;
800 yards of 60-pound monofilament; or 1,200 yards of
50-pound mono
- A “Power Lever” for instant control of winding speed and
winding power
- Programmable auto-stop to cease winding when the rig reaches the surface
- Manual winding option
- Digital readout to measure the line let out and the distance retrieved
- Sealed electronics that make the reel washable
Seaborg SB300FB
A compact reel for fishing depths
of 400 feet or more, the SB300FB is designed for portability with excellent line capacity and is
meant for braided line.
Features include:
- Compact design
- Programmable jigging function
- Castability
- Capacity for 450 yards of 30-pound braid, 330 yards of 40-pound or 250 yards of 50-pound
- A “power lever” for instant control of winding speed and winding power
- Programmable auto-stop to cease winding when the rig reaches the surface
- Manual winding option
- Digital readout to measure the line let out and the distance retrieved
- Sealed electronics that make the reel washable
Seaborg SB500Fe
The SB500Fe includes the same features as those listed above for the SB300FB,
but comes with differences, especially:
- A larger size meant to be fished to depths of 800 feet or more
- Construction meant for mono line as well as braid
- More line capacity: 390 yards of 50-pound braid, 330 yards of 60-pound braid, 240 yards of 80-pound braid, 270 yards of 20-pound mono or 180 yards of 30-pound mono
Seaborg Megatwin SB500MT
Seaborg Megatwins kick it up a notch with two shiftable gears: a higher gear to retrieve the line at warp speed, like when the angler
just wants
to check the bait; and a lower gear to muscle in fish with greater torque but slower speed.
Features of the
SB500MT include:
- Dual-speed winding for either speed or power
- 754-feet-per-minute winding speed in
high gear
- Maximum continuous winding power of 20 pounds and temporary winding power of 110 pounds
- Programmable jigging function
- Capacity for 250 yards of 25-pound mono or 210 yards of
30-pound
- A “power lever” for instant control of winding speed and
winding power
- Programmable auto-stop to cease winding when the rig reaches the surface
- Manual winding option
- Digital readout to measure the line let out and the distance retrieved
- Sealed electronics that make the reel washable
Seaborg Megatwin SB750MT
The Seaborg Megatwin SB750MT includes the
same features as those listed for the SB500MT above but comes with differences, especially:
- A larger line capacity of 590 yards of 25-pound mono, 450 yards of 30-pound and 310 yards of 40-pound
- Slightly slower high-gear winding speed of 656-feet-per-minute
- But stronger maximum continuous winding power of 29 pounds and temporary winding power of 165 pounds
Tanacom Bull
Built for kite fishing, the Tanacom Bull winds in the kite and stops
by itself while the angler fights the fish. But the reel
can also be used for actual fishing, with the capacity and power to deep-drop to 1,100 feet.
Features include:
- Programmable jigging function
- Capacity for 1,100 yards of 60-pound braid, 900 yards of 80-pound braid, 700 yards of 30-pound mono and 500 yards of
40-pound mono
- A “power lever” for instant control of winding speed and winding power
- Programmable auto-stop to halt the winding when the rig reaches the surface
- Manual winding option
- Digital readout to measure the line let out and the distance retrieved
