Imagine the infomercial for It dices! It slices! It even floats! Well, it doesn’t dice and slice. But it floats. |
Standard Horizon has introduced three different models of floating handheld VHF radios. But wait! There’s more! Built to be rugged, they can withstand both a dunk in the drink and a drop on the deck, the company says. All come with some of the same features, including: 6-watt operation, transmitting farther and clearer than many other handhelds with 5-watt operation, the company says; a water temperature sensor; progressive scan; programmable scan; dual watch, allowing two channels to be monitored at once; an 1,150 milli-amp-hour lithium-ion battery; a drop-in cradle battery charger for both 110-volt AC and 12-volt DC; an ergonomic shape; a diecast chassis; and one-hand operation. But the models also include unique features. For example, one includes a wireless handset for hand-free communication, and another includes Digital Selective Calls (DSC), a type of phone call to other DSC-equipped radios, including a distress call to emergency personnel that transmits your GPS position.
Features include:
HX760S
HX850S Built to be a workhorse. Designed for “the highest-level boating enthusiast,” the company says.
