An estimated 10 percent of spinning-reel casts create loops that frequently lead to tangles, the company says.

The spool on the WaveSpin Spinning Reel features a jagged shape like a series of waves around the front lip.

On the retrieve, the tips of the waves catch any loops that formed in the line.

The loops end up being held tight between the waves, and flow off the spool un-looped on the cast.

The WaveSpin can reportedly also cast up to 30 percent farther than traditional spinning reels.

Like how a boat cruises faster on choppy seas than on flat seas because of less hull contact, the peaks of the waves on a WaveSpin cause less contact of the line on the lip on the cast, instead of constant contact on a smooth lip.

WaveSpins can be fished with monofilament or braid in either freshwater or salt.
