Fishing can be one of those activities that bring about obsession in someone.

Like the angler who set the alarm clock to wake up every few hours each night and check the herring in his livewell during the spring run of the baitfish.

True story.

His wife was apparently a saint.

Similarly, you know you’re an avid angler if you keep a log book.

Not only are you fishing all the time, but you’re writing about it.

At least there’s a clear purpose to all of this: to catch more fish.

And the purpose of catching more fish?

Well, that’s another subject. Let’s just agree that there is a purpose.

Keeping a log allows an angler to remember details about a fishing trip, such as the exact location, the date, the weather, the water conditions, the moon phase, the lure or bait, and the presentation used.

Then the log of past trips can be studied to see patterns that reveal the best ways to catch the fish in the future.

Luv2Fish Software has developed Fishalog, a program that anglers use to keep an organized fishing log on a computer. After a fishing trip, the angler simply clicks on the date on a calendar and fills in fields provided for each detail.

Reports can be run from the program based on aspects like location, the type of lure or bait, the weather or water conditions, and the tide.

Fishalog also does more. For example, it can be used as one central location to find out the moon phase for each day, the tides for the area and the local weather. Fishing photos can be stored in one organized location. Fishing buddies can be e-mailed from the program to share information about the bite.
