5/7 -- Well the bunker have arrived in big numbers and the big stripers are here with them. We livelined a limit of bigger bass on our last trip. Report below. Hopefully this will start our livelining of bunker for trophy stripers! Little earlier than last year, and the last few years have been great. With fish up to 47 lbs and tons of personal bests. Charter dates are filling up quick, due to the overlap of the upcoming seabass season and trophy striper livelining. We will sail Open for stripers and will start our afternoon Open Boat specials next week. Also will be fishing for seabass when that opens, also Open Boat trips when not chartered. We limited out just about every seabass trip last spring and fall last year! And expect lock and load action from the opening! Check the website for more info. ***Live Line Limits: Headed out with Craig, Darrel, Ron and Phil for another day of striper fishing. On the way up we saw a load of bunker off Belmar. Made some bait for the well. Headed up to the Rocks, didn't see much. Couple miles further north some bird play and fish. But it wasn't good ... couple of blues. .. couple of keepers ... couple short stripers. Played around with that for a while hoping they would pop up and we could get a good crack at them and never did. Got a Call from Capt Ant that it was going off big fish on bunkers down south! Got down there, it was quite an amazing sight with bass chasing bunker all over the place ... 3 and 4 bass trying to eat a bunker off the top at once and every fish we caught had others following it! The guys all caught some nice stripers until they had their legal limit and released the rest for another day! They also had a load of blues! First time liveliners and the guys did a great job gettin the hang of it! Some spread of bunker and fish ... had to be 3 or 4 miles ... N to south and both inshore to a couple miles off the beach ... similar to what wesve seen in June the last few years! Everyone wound up with a limit, big fish for us was 27 lbs, and some blues. Others I know had some bigger, and we broke a few good ones off. So hopefully this will be the start of the livelining the bigger fish. It was another Great Day with a Great Crew! Thanks again guys! Will be back at it Sat & Sun and will be running Open Boat trips during the weekdays next week! Give a Buzz Lets Go Fishing!!! www.fishmongercharters.com
