Hi Flier, Barnegat

The striped bass fishing shows no signs of letting up. I fished through
the wind and rain on Wed and Thurs and the fishing was awesome. Most of the time
I am fishing within two miles of our Barnegat Inlet. Anywhere from 15 to 55 feet
of water. Flocks of birds, fish swirling on the surface, blackout readings of
sandeels and fish on the depth recorder......every day! We have been catching
most of our fish on lighter gear, 10 pound spinning outfits with FIN-S and BKD
soft plastics on 3/8 ounce jigheads. Everyone keeps asking me how that is
working in the deeper water........ummm,.....we let it sink longer. Once you
start with the light rods, it's hard to go back to heavier tackle. There are
times when we put out the trolling rods, but I even have a light version of
those. They are 5 1/2 ft, instead of 8 ft, small Daiwa Sealine 50H conventional
instead of big 4/0 Penn Senators, and the best part is they are spooled with 150
feet of wireline instead of 300 feet. An all around much lighter, more enjoyable
trolling outfit, and instead of shad bars or umbrella rigs, we are using single
jointed tube lures to match the hatch of the sandeel run. These outfits let us
troll in the 20 ft. depths while we are looking for the next gob of readings or
flock of birds. We have also been catching a few on jigs, but vertical jigging
has not been producing as well as dropping to the bottom, speed reeling for 10
or 15 cranks, then drop back to the bottom and repeat. The water is still 52 to
53 degrees. There are a lot of 8 to 12 pound bluefish in the mix, but the
striper ratio is still excellent. The bass are anywhere from 26' to 32' fish
common with a few bigger fish. Every day is bringing limit catches to the cooler
and plenty more to catch and release. It doesn't get any better than this. We
will be running an open boat for stripers on Thanksgiving morning, 6 AM to
Noon......Sharp! To get you and me back in time for the Holiday. Also, the next
day, Friday, Nov. 25, and Sunday, Nov. 27, both 6AM to Noon. The cost for any of
these trips is $150 per person. If it is your first time sailing with us,
payment by credit card is required in advance. We take a maximum of three
people. All the fish are shared. Please call me to reserve a spot as I am not on
the computer much these days, I am mostly on the water: 732-330-5674. Capt. Dave
