Monday, 12/19/2005, took brother John fishing at Island Beach State Park from 3 to 5 PM on the low tide. Tried a few holes from Area 7 south and got hits at every stop. John caught and released 9 striped bass to 18" including 1 double on a Storm shad and his homemade bucktail teaser - 8 on the teaser. He got snagged on the bottom and lost his rig. I caught, tagged and released 8 striped bass to 18" including 1 double - 3 on brother John's homemade bucktail teaser and 5 on a mackerel Red Fin that is more than 30 years old. Caught my 600th NJ striped bass of the year and my 8,400th NJ striped bass since 1985. Saw a bass grab my plug close to the beach. On Sunday I made 111 casts on the Barnegat Inlet north jetty and got no hits. Looks like the surf is better than the inlets now. We will return today.
