Took brother John surf fishing at Island Beach State Park on Wednesday, December 21, 2005. Saw lots of ice on Barnegat Bay enroute. Went to the end of the road and 2 other fishermen were leaving. They said that they caught 3 shorts. Went to the inlet, then fished the holes north. Got no hits for the first hour. Then lost my biggest fish of this week at 3:54 PM at area 20. Caught, tagged and released 3 shorts at area 18 then 5 at area 10. Tagged 8 fish in 33 minutes with 12 casts - 5 on Red Fin and 3 on brother John's homemade bucktail teaser. Brother John caught 5 shorts to 18" on Storm shad and bucktail teaser. Fish hit from 4:15 to 5:03 PM close to the beach. Saw a short miss my lure in the wash then held the Red Fin in the undertow and the fish grabbed it. I lifted it onto the beach like cane pole fishing. Tagged 31 bass past 3 days in the IBSP surf. Largest was only 18". Will try again today. |
