Thursday, 01-05-2006, went fishing in the Delaware River with 78 year old Anton. He caught 3 walleyes to 20" on a bucktail jig and kept the 20". I caught and released 5 calico to 10" on a 1/16 oz yellow jig with 2" chartreuse tail and 2 lb test ultralight spinning outfit. I saw a 12" fish jump out of the water with a large fish chasing it. The big fish made popping, gurgling and slurping noises while swirling. I cast a Yozuri plug with my 7' Ugly stick, old Mitchell 300 reel and 12 lb test line. After a short time I hooked a large fish that battled for a long time. It was a 30" 12 lb striped bass that I tagged and released. It was barely lip hooked with 1 hook and I was very lucky to land it. Looks like the bigger bass are in fresh water now. The striper was darker and softer than salt water stripers.
